Sioux Lookout Mayor Doug Lawrance is a happy man. He got news yesterday the community will be getting 76 more long-term care beds.
"This is something the community's been fighting for many, many years. Fantastic," he said. "Just too bad there's the realization it's still three or four years away."
The announcement comes as political leaders are crossing the northwest before next month's provincial election. The mayor is also the Liberal candidate for the riding of Kiiwetinoong.
Heather Lee's the CEO for the Meno-Ya-Win Health Centre, and she's happy to hear good news about long-term care.
"We've got the right people in the right places, and we're able to see this now come to fruition," she said.
Yesterday, the minister responsible for long-term care announced 76 new beds for Sioux Lookout.
