The Northwestern Health Unit is reporting another 5 cases of the coronavirus in their catchment area today, including 2 in the Dryden / Red Lake region and 3 in the Kenora area.

Follow up with the persons involved and their contacts have started according to protocol. Anyone who is identified as a contact for these cases will be contacted directly.

After a significant spike in cases recently, the region currently has 88 active cases of COVID-19, including 82 in the Kenora region. There are 4 listed for Dryden / Red Lake, and 2 in Sioux Lookout.

We’ve seen 385 cases so far as of February 18. The region hadn’t hit 300 cases until February 12.

NWHU recommends that everyone assume COVID-19 is in their community and practise preventive measures like physical distancing, wearing a mask in enclosed public spaces and when physical distancing is a challenge, good hand hygiene, and not touching their face.

Anyone who has symptoms, or who has been in contact with a positive case, should self-isolate and get tested, and remain in isolation until your test results are known.
