The Ontario Energy Board has accepted an Assurance of Voluntary Compliance from Sioux Lookout Hydro, in connection to the overcharging of customers.

Earlier this year the utility self reported its findings that it had been overcharging customers after seeing another distributor had provided an AVC.

This was the result of a billing system error which persisted for several years, amounting to around 40 cents per residential customer, that error has since been corrected.

As a result the utility will provide $1162 to the Low-income Energy Assistance Program, the equivalent of four years of over charges.

It will also pay an administrative monetary penalty of $750.

Late last month Synergy North announced a billing error had overcharged customers around 36 cents per customer over four years
