A case of COVID-19 has been identified in a staff member who works at the New Gold mine in Rainy River.
At a media conference on Tuesday, Dr. Kit Young Hoon, Medical Officer of Health at the Northwestern Health Unit (NWHU) said the case at New Gold is linked to the Calvary Baptist Church outbreak.
She went on to say that this case is still under investigation and that the health unit is unsure, at this time, if this case was caused by a variant of concern.
The NWHU says there is an increased risk of COVID-19 in the Emo area, as there are COVID-19 cases that are linked to multiple facilities and organizations.
Dr. Young Hoon added that under the current stay-at-home order everyone should only leave their homes for essential reasons and that anyone that develops at least one symptom of COVID-19 should self-isolate and get tested.
On Tuesday, the NWHU declared an outbreak at Calvary Baptist Church in Emo and reported six cases of COVID-19 in the Emo Health Hub area.
