Local business owner Morgan Shephard, owner of Dryden’s Little Mod Nest, will be representing northwestern Ontario business owners on a provincial committee, and will be joining Kenora Rainy-River MPP Greg Rickford.
Shephard and Rickford are both part of Ontario’s Small Business Economic Advisory Council, who recently held their inaugural meeting. The group of provincial leaders and 12 Ontario business owners will be providing advice and identifying challenges throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I couldn’t have been prouder to learn that Morgan Shephard of Little Mod Nest was selected to join the Council and bring Main Street small business experience to the table,” said Rickford. “The addition of Morgan, will only bolster the ability of this Ministerial Council to provide solid advice to the government on how best to make Ontario Open for Business once again.”
Representing a cross-section of sectors and regions, ideas from this virtual Council will be reported into the government’s new Ontario Jobs and Recovery Committee. The 13-Minister Committee will utilize this feedback in identifying how best to protect and support people and jobs, jump-start the recovery, and rebuild Ontario’s economy.
“Our small businesses are the cornerstone of local economies, and time-tested, small business owners know better than anyone what it takes to create jobs, jumpstart growth, and get our economy moving again” said Small Business and Red Tape Reduction Minister, Prabmeet Sarkaria.
“This is why it is vitally important to draw on their strengths, expertise and know-how to develop a prudent, people-focused plan that puts Ontario’s small businesses on the road to recovery.”
Members of the job and recovery committee include Minister of finance Rod Phillips, Minister of Economic Development Vic Fedeli, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Christine Elliott, Minister of Labour Monte McNaughton and more.
Dryden’s Little Mod Nest is a family wellness boutique that specializes in children’s clothing, toys, snacks and more. Shephard won the Dryden and District Chamber of Commerce’s Win This Space contest in 2017.
