Current Kenora riding MP Eric Melillo has spoken about the Liberals decision to call a federal election.

In a prepared statement, Melillo said “I believe this election is an unnecessary, self-serving move by the Trudeau Liberals at a time when Canada should be focusing on beating COVID-19 and recovering our economy”. Melillo continued by re-enforcing his, and his teams, continued effort to a secure future for Canada and for Northwestern Ontario.

If re-elected, Melillo plans to fund infrastructure in Northwestern Ontario and deliver high-speed internet to all regions by 2025.

Melillo says he is committed to standing up for free speech and the rights of law-abiding gun owners.

Working with Indigenous communities to advance reconciliation is also high on Melillo’s priority list.

The current MP concluded his statement by thanking the public “It’s been an honour to serve as MP for the Kenora riding. Over the next 36 days, I look forward to hearing from voters across the riding and sharing our plan to secure Canada’s future.”

Canadians are set to go to the polls on September 20, 2021.
