The Nishnawbe Aski Nation has re-elected Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler.

Elections for the NAN Executive Council took place on Wednesday at the 37th Keewaywin Conference, in the traditional territory of Chapleau Cree First Nation. Alvin was running against Rosmary McKay.

“Thank you to the NAN Chiefs for the honour of giving me another strong mandate as Grand Chief. To my wife Tesa, and our daughters Allison and Lynette, thank you for your love and support. Looking forward to the work ahead,” Fiddler said in a social media post, following his re-election.

Alvin, who was born in Sioux Lookout and raised in Muskrat Dam First Nation, was the previous Deputy Chief of Muskrat Dam from 1993-1998. He was elected Grand Chief for Nishnawbe Aski Nation in 2015. Chiefs from across the region also elected Jason Smallboy, Derek Fox and Walter Naveau as the three Deputy Grand Chiefs for NAN.

The elections included chiefs from NAN’s 49 First Nation communities.
