The Northwestern Health Unit has reported fifteen new cases of COVID-19 across the district.

Nine new cases have been reported in the Kenora region, four new cases have been reported in the Sioux Lookout region and two new cases have been reported in the District of Rainy River.

Provincewide, 1,185 new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Saturday.

Follow up with the persons involved and their contacts have started according to protocol. Anyone who is identified as a contact for these cases will be contacted directly.

NWHU recommends that everyone assume COVID-19 is in their community and practise preventive measures like physical distancing, wearing a mask in enclosed public spaces and when physical distancing is a challenge, good hand hygiene, and not touching their face. Anyone who has symptoms, or who has been in contact with a positive case, should self-isolate and get tested.

On Friday, staff at the NWHU announced the region's first variant of concern of COVID-19 had been found in Dryden, and staff say the case is related to travel.
