The Township of Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls has prohibited any outdoor burning, in response to an extreme forest fire hazard in the area. All outdoor burning permits have been suspended until further notice.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says that the fire hazard is high to extreme in the southwest portion of the region including Kenora, Fort Frances and Dryden Districts.
In Sioux Lookout, Red Lake and Nipigon Districts the hazard ranges from high in the south and changing to moderate and low hazard as one moves into the far north. A high fire hazard is present in the Thunder Bay District.
There are currently 75 active forest fires in the region.
