Perennial KBI favourite Jeff 'Gussy' Gustafson's competing with the best anglers in North America this weekend. He's in his second Forrest Wood Cup in the U.S., rather than competing at Kenora Bass International.
On Day 1, Gussy's well back in the pack at 33rd, after a tough start on a rough day. The top weight on Day 1 was about 14 pounds on five fish.
The result's a bit unusual, because Gussy's been having a good year, with just over $74,000 (U.S.) dollars in prize money in seven tournaments so far this year on the American circuit, including three Top 10 finishes. He also added a Shoal Lake title last month.
This is his best year on the Fishing League Worldwide circuit in two years. Gussy took home just over $72,000 (U.S.) in 2016. Overall, he's taken home $306,975 since 2013.
