Kris Hamlin's digging deep. He got two points last night, but it wasn't quite what the Dryden G-M Ice Dogs were looking for in Game 2 of their SIJHL final series.
"Sometimes, you want it to be an easy cakewalk, but there's nothing better than playoff hockey when it's 3-2 games and overtimes. That's fun stuff and that's what makes hockey so enjoyable," he said.
After winning Game 1 by a score of 3-2 in overtime on Saturday, the Ice Dogs fell 3-2 last night to the Thunder Bay North Stars.
Game 3 is set for Tuesday at Fort William Gardens. Dryden fans can look forward to Game 5 Friday night at the Dog Pound.
More than 750 packed into the stands for the game, and they were treated to a great start by the Ice Dogs. They led 1-0 after the first and 2-0 in the second, before the wheels went sideways.
After calling three straight penalties against the North Stars early in the first, referees called eight of the next nine against the Ice Dogs. Three were against captain Trevor Kavanaugh, who got ejected in the third period for having three stick infractions in the same game.
Former Thistle Brandon Bodnar earned a game star, as he stopped 38 of 40 shots for the win. Most importantly, he didn't allow a third goal, before his team started rolling.
Landon Pavlisin stopped 32 of 35 in the loss for the Ice Dogs.
