The OPP have laid charges to a 51-year-old woman for assaulting an infant.
On September 24, 2017, Pikangikum First Nation OPP officers were notified by Tikinagan Family and Child Services that an infant child that had been living in one of their Agency Operated Houses had been taken to the Winnipeg Health Science Centre in medical distress. Medical examination revealed that the infant had suffered serious injuries, but lived.
Members of the OPP North West Region Crime Unit began an investigation under the direction of Detective Inspector Rob Matthews of the Criminal Investigation Branch. As a result, Pikangikum First Nation resident Anita Strang, 51, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. She is being held in custody, pending a bail hearing today.

This is the second serious incident involving an infant in Pikangikum this year. On January 31, the Pikangikum Police Service requested the assistance of the OPP to investigate the sudden death of a two month old infant.
