The Class of 2022 for the Kenora Sports Hall of Fame has been announced.

The inductees in the athletes' category are Edie Fisher, Malcolm Fisher, and Dennis Olson who is being inducted posthumously. Kyle Koch is entering the Hall of Fame in the professional athlete category. Debbie Novak, Barry Reynard, Andrea Ronnebeck and Noreen Dunbar are being inducted as builders.

It was another slick night of racing at Lake of the Woods Speedway on Friday. #13 Zach Valiquette took the win in the 4-Cylinders, #28 Alex Mira placed first in the WISSOTA Pure Stock feature, while #4 Brandon Rehill won his third feature in a row in the Q104 WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds.

The Speedway is taking this Friday off before racing action returns on Saturday, July 30 and Sunday, July 31 for the annual Dinner Jacket Classic Series. Hot Laps are set for 5 p.m. with racing at 5:30 p.m. on both nights.

The Toronto Blue Jays, who won their 50th game of the year Sunday by clipping the Kansas City Royals 4-2, will have five players in Tuesday's All-Star Game, while a sixth is staying home.

Jays suiting up in Los Angeles are pitchers Alek Manoah and Jordan Romano, catcher Alejandro Kirk, first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Junior and second baseman Santiago Espinal. Fielder George Springer was selected but will stay home to rest his sore elbow.

NHL teams continue their free-agent shopping spree. Yesterday, the Edmonton Oilers signed forward Mattias Janmark to a one-year $1.25 million contract. Janmark recorded 25 points in 67 games with the Vegas Golden Knights last season.

The Toronto Maple Leafs, meanwhile, re-signed Pierre Engvall to a one-year contract extension worth $2.25 million. Engvall scored 15 goals last season.

The sex assault trial of former Vancouver Canucks forward Jake Virtanen begins today in BC Supreme Court. Virtanen was charged with one count of sexual assault in January following a police investigation into an incident that took place on September 2017 when he was playing for the Canucks.

Vancouver police launched the investigation in May 2021 after a 23-year-old woman filed a complaint. His contract was terminated and he's since been playing in Russia.
