Margaret Rose Savage

Our hearts are overflowing with love and gratitude as we send off the Matriarch of our family, Margaret Rose Savage, born March 19, 1948.
Born in 1948 on a farm near Neepawa, Manitoba to parents Angus and Vera Kasprick, Marg was raised with true farmgirl spirit. This taught her the importance of hard work, and developed her grit and resilience. She often shared stories of life on the farm and contributed her resourceful nature to the life lessons she learned. When she left the farm, she relocated to Kenora and lived with her brother Gerry and dear sister-in-law Cathy. Marg met a biker boy named Rick and despite Gerry’s protests, she married her life partner in 1970. Marg took such amazing care of him throughout their lives together.
Marg is survived by her husband of 53 years Rick, their three sons Brad (Jenn), Curt (Chevonne), and Chris (Chrysti), seven grandchildren Jaxen, Ayla, Cameron, Hannah, Alexa, Kaia, and Brodie and honorary grandchildren Halle and Jake. Marg also leaves behind her siblings Gerry (Cathy), Dennis (Karen), Brian (Mary Ann), Doreen, Bev (Rudy), Dianne (Garnett), Jeanette (Dave), and their families. Her extended family in Thunder Bay shared a special place in her heart with her sister-in-law Marilyn (Carl) and their families. There are many special memories such as camping at Lake Shebandowan.
Family meant everything to Marg. She lovingly shared stories of the trials and tribulations of raising the three Savage boys in Kenora. Marg was a mom that “made mom’ing look easy” and she dedicated her life to being fully present delighting in her boys. While they sure gave her a run for her money, her love and support was lasting and unconditional. Never a day will go by without those boys knowing how much they were cherished by their mom. Marg also loved supporting Rick’s fishing adventures and truly encouraged him to invest in this hobby. Marg stood strong beside her boys as they raised their families, watching her grandchildren grow and learn, and knowing with her strong faith that she raised great men.
Some things that stood out about Marg include her stubborn farmgirl spirit, deep work ethic, and the tender care she took of her gardens with the summer gifts of cucumbers and tomatoes. Marg had a secret love for online poker and a killer poker face. If there was a lockdown, Marg’s house is where you’d want to be with her triple supply of Costco toilet paper and duplicates of every item you would ever need. Just ask Rick how many of one item someone truly needs! Whether she spent the night at her sons’ homes taking care of her grandchildren or opened her home (and basement) for them to receive her TLC, Marg’s generosity was infinite. She would listen without judgment for hours and many turned to her for her unconditional love and support. Marg was blessed with many special friends including Irene, Shauna, Cathy, Marlene, Susan, Diane, along with many others.
Marg was the motivator to get people together and she loved hosting family events where her cooking and company couldn’t be beat. Boxing Day Brunch will never be the same without her Monkey Bread, fruit trays, quiche, and personalized stockings made with thoughtful care.
During her 40 year career at Safeway, she made many lasting friendships. The Safeway girls will never forget the long walks and even longer coffee breaks. Surprisingly Marg could shut down a restaurant like no other, because once you started a conversation with her, you didn’t want it to end. Proud owners of the original Kenora Bowling alley, Marg and Rick were active leaders in developing and supporting youth bowling leagues.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday September 16, 2023 from 12-4 at the Kenora Curling Club to truly honor this woman we call Wife, Mother, Grandma, Sister, Aunt, and friend.
