The Toronto Blue Jays send Yusei Kikuchi to the mound tonight in New York to open a two-game series.  The Yankees counter with Luis Severino.  The Jays are coming off a losing series in Cleveland where they dropped three of four games.

Johnny Gaudreau scored on a penalty shot and the Calgary Flames beat the Stars in Dallas to even up their best-of-seven opening-round playoff series at two wins apiece. The series heads back to Calgary for Game 5 on Wednesday.

The Colorado Avalanche became the first team to advance to the second round of the N-H-L playoffs, finishing a sweep of the Nashville Predators with a 5-3 win.

The Presidents' Trophy-winning Florida Panthers beat the Washington Capitals 3-2 in Game 4, tying the first-round series.  And Sidney Crosby had a goal and three assists to become the sixth player in N-H-L history to reach 200 career playoff points and the Pittsburgh Penguins throttled the New York Rangers 7-2 to take a 3-1 series lead.

The Edmonton Oilers and the Toronto Maple Leafs both look to rebound from decisive losses in their N-H-L playoff series tonight. The Oilers, who were blanked 4-0 in L-A on Sunday, host the Kings in Game 5 at Rogers Place, while the Leafs, who were thumped 7-3 in Tampa, take on the Lightning in Game 5 at Scotiabank Arena. Both series are tied 2-2.

Elsewhere, the Hurricanes welcome the Bruins and the Wild are up against the Blues. Those series are also tied 2-2. The Colorado Avalanche await either St. Louis or Minnesota in the next round after sweeping the Predators.

The New York Islanders have fired head coach Barry Trotz after missing the playoffs in his fourth season with the team. Trotz joined the Isles in 2018 after guiding the Washington Capitals to a Stanley Cup championship. He won the Jack Adams Award as the N-H-L's best coach in 2019.

And the NHL will hold its draft lottery tonight to set the order of the first 16 picks in its 2022 entry draft set for July 7th in Montreal. The last-place Montreal Canadiens have the best odds -- an 18-point-five per cent chance of landing the top pick. The Arizona Coyotes have the second-best odds, followed by the Seattle Kraken. Kingston Frontenacs centre Shane Wright is considered the likely number one pick.
