The Northwestern Health Unit has announced a single new confirmed COVID-19 test result in the region, located in the Dryden Health Hub area.

Staff say follow-ups with those involved have started according to protocols, and anyone identified as a potential close contact with the case will be reached directly by public health staff.

As of May 16, the NWHU has reported a total of 1,031 cases in the last 15 months, with 53 cases considered active. Active cases include 35 in the Sioux Lookout area, 6 in the Kenora area, 10 in the Dryden area and 2 in the Fort Frances area.

Everyone, including those who are vaccinated, is asked to assume COVID-19 is in their community and practice preventative measures like social distancing, wearing a mask in enclosed public spaces and when physical distancing is a challenge, good hand hygiene and not touching their face.
