Michael, fondly known as Mike, was born to Michael Paul and Mary Dorothy Shorting (Garceau) on April 1, 1967 in Winnipeg Manitoba and was a member of Northwest Angle 33 First Nation in Ontario. Mike spent his youth growing up in Winnipeg and enjoyed roller skating, break dancing, playing many sports, and in the early 80’s met his first love and life long best friend Celina Blackhawk where in 1986, Mike became a father at the age of 18 to his only son Fabian.
Mike was a gifted athlete who continued playing ice-hockey, ball hockey, and basketball into adulthood. He took exceptional interest in furthering himself as a welder with a goal to become a millwright, where he enjoyed working in steel fabrication during his journeyman days.
In the early 2000’s Mike settled in Dalles FN and shortly after he befriended Linda Cobiness where they grew a fond relationship with each other over the years. After some time, they welcomed their first child together Jordan Sanderson in 2002, where he helped raise her and her sister Shy-Anne. In 2003, he became a first-time grandfather to Talia and again in 2011 to Bryston.
Mike enjoyed spending his free time with his children and grandchildren, golfing, fishing, watching UFC, playing pool and guitar. He wore his heart on his sleeve and took a lot of pride helping family and friends whenever asked or needed, he especially enjoyed sharing his love for cooking with others.
Mike is survived by his children, Fabian Blackhawk, Jordan Sanderson, Shyanne Cobiness. Grandchildren Talia Blackhawk, Bryston Blackhawk. He is also survived by his sister, Adrienne Sanderson (Eugene), Brother Conrad Sanderson, Niece Kelly Sanderson and Nephew Anthony King. As well as many more loving aunts, uncles, and relatives.
