Grand Council Treaty #3 leaders are working to support local families across the region, and are donating new generators and defibrillators to each Treaty #3 community in the region.

Members of the Territorial Planning Unit delivered the new products to Wauzhushk Onigum First Nation and Asubpeeschoseewagong First Nation, which were purchased through funding provided by Indigenous Services Canada.

The generators will be used by the communities’ security teams, which have been set in place by leaders to protect community members during the COVID-19 crisis. The generators will later be used to help elders and safe centres.

The Territorial Planning Unit adds that they are continuing to look for new ways to support communities, through both environmental and climate change plans, and emergency management planning.

One of the new initiatives includes the development of a Treaty #3 regional recycling program and emissions reduction project. The TPU includes three emergency management coordinators across the territory.
