The Northwestern Health Unit has reported nine new cases of COVID-19 across the district, marking the sixth straight day at least one case has been reported in the region.

Seven of the cases are in the Kenora region and two are in the Sioux Lookout region.

Provincewide, 1,228 new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Saturday.

Follow up with the persons involved and their contacts have started according to protocol. Anyone who is identified as a contact for these cases will be contacted directly.

NWHU recommends that everyone assume COVID-19 is in their community and practise preventive measures like physical distancing, wearing a mask in enclosed public spaces and when physical distancing is a challenge, good hand hygiene, and not touching their face. Anyone who has symptoms, or who has been in contact with a positive case, should self-isolate and get tested.

To date, there have been 406 confirmed and eight probable cases of COVID-19 reported in the district. 296 of the 414 total cases are listed as resolved, there are currently 108 active cases in the Kenora region, four active cases in each the Dryden / Red Lake and Sioux Lookout region, and one death.
