An officer with the Dryden Police Service used his hunting and trapping experience to aid with his detective work, and charges have been laid after the theft of parkas in October, 2020.

The DPS says on October 6, a local Dryden clothing business was broken into an several “Canada Goose” parkas were stolen.

On January 2, while preparing to transport a female subject, the officer noted the parka the subject had in her possession had coyote fur on the hood, the same fur used on the Canada Goose parkas.

Officers further investigated the parka, and although the majority of the labels had been removed, it was confirmed that this was the same type of jacket, and it was enough grounds to proceed with charges.

As a result, 32-year-old Kaila Blanchard of Dryden has been charged with possession of stolen property, and has been issued a summons to attend court on a future date.

Anyone with any information regarding the sale of stolen items in the area is asked to call the DPS at 807-223-1137, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
