Local elementary and secondary school athletes won’t have the opportunity to win OFSAA in 2020.
President of the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations, Nick Rowe, says their executive council has made the difficult decision of cancelling all 2020 fall championships and festivals that were scheduled for October and November.
The decision was made in-alignment of Ontario’s Stage 3 reopening regulations, which apply a number of restrictions and regulations to sports and recreation activities.
OFSAA says decisions concerning their 2021 winter and spring events will be announced at a later date, when those decisions have been finalized.
OFSAA notes their Return to Sports Working Group was formed in May, and is made up of administrators, teachers, directors of education, a public health official and OFSAA staff. They’ve been meeting to monitor the ongoing situation.
