Education in Nestor Falls received a huge boost on Wednesday (April 27, 2022), as the province announced a $2.6 million investment in the Rainy River District School Board.

The money announced by Kenora-Rainy River MPP, Greg Rickford, will go towards a new elementary school in Nestor Falls. This investment will support the creation of 46 elementary student spaces and is part of the Ford government’s commitment to building state-of-the-art schools for Ontario youth.

“The new Nestor Falls Elementary School is welcomed news for our region,” said Greg Rickford, MPP for Kenora-Rainy River. “This provincial investment will provide choice and flexibility for families and new opportunities for the children of Rainy River. This is another great example of how our government is improving access to education and building stronger community infrastructure.”

The new school is part of a provincewide investment of nearly $500 million to support the new school and childcare spaces. A total of 37 school-related projects including 23 childcare centres are included in this provincial investment.

With the additional funding, the province will be able to add nearly 15,700 new student spaces and 1,502 licensed childcare spaces at schools across Ontario.

“The new Nestor Falls School is an exciting announcement for our students, staff, and families of Nestor Falls,” said Heather Campbell, Director of Education, Rainy River District School Board. “We are so grateful for the opportunity to participate in the Rapid Build program, providing the Board with a modular build that enhances accessibility, offers enhanced teaching and learning spaces, and continues the work to make our schools safe and supportive for all students and staff.”

Nestor Falls Public Elementary School is located at 11 School Road in Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls.

For 2022-23, the province is also providing school boards with $1.4 billion in funding to renew and maintain existing schools.
