The Municipality of Sioux Lookout is announcing they’re working to reopen the community’s Recreation Centre and the Biidaaban Children’s Centre, which were both closed due to the pandemic.
The Recreation Centre and Memorial Arena has reopened their main lobby and reception desk, and additional facilities will open on a staggered basis throughout August.
In August, their hours of operation will be between 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday. Currently, the reception desk is open between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. All visitors will be required to wear a mask at all times, and will by signed-in by staff.
The walking track above the gym will open in August, with physical distancing. No running will be allowed. A spin bike and two workout stations will also be made available along the track. Change rooms will be made available for limited use.
Squash courts will reopen with a maximum of two people allowed in the area at any given time, and court times will be in 45 minute increments. Weight and cardio rooms will also reopen next month, and masks must be worn at all times.
“We are eager to welcome the public back to our facilities, but we do ask that all of the restrictions and requirements for admittance are followed, so that we can do our part to reduce the likelihood of transmission of COVID-19, thereby protecting our staff and visitors to our facilities,” advised Michelle Larose, CAO\.
As well, toddler and preschool programming is now available at the Biidaaban Children’s Centre, on reduced hours between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday to Friday. The Sioux Mountain Children’s Centre will remain closed until further notice, due to staffing limitations.
Families requiring childcare services are asked to contact Biidaaban at 807-737-4570 to be added to the waiting list. A number of health measures have been put in place to keep youth and staff as safe as possible, including PPE and daily screening measures.
Burning permits and boat launch passes will be available for sale at the Fire Hall between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., Monday to Friday, as well as from the front desk of the Recreation Centre between 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Outdoor areas that are now open include the baseball diamonds, picnic areas, the skateboard park and tennis courts. Social distancing measures must be followed at all times.
