Residents in the Wabigoon area are cautioned to keep out of Wabigoon Lake following a report of an algae bloom.

Blue-green algae was reported near Rowatt Road in the Bonny Bay area, which is being tested by the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks. Although the results are unconfirmed at this time, people should treat the water as though there is blue-green algae.

People and pets are advised to avoid contact with the water and should wait at least two weeks after a confirmed bloom has disappeared. Do NOT boil the water for drinking purposes as the process can increase toxin levels. Municipally treated water supplies can be used normally unless you are notified otherwise.

If you spot a bloom, report it to the Spills Action Centre at 1-866-MOETIPS (6638477)
