A 70-year-old man is facing opioid trafficking charges in Sioux Lookout.

On June 5, members of the Sioux Lookout OPP conducted a traffic stop on Highway 72, near Sturgeon River Road. During the vehicle search, investigators located and seized morphine pills with an estimated street value of $3,000, a number of electronic devices and paraphernalia indicative of drug trafficking.

As a result of the investigation, Alex Beardy, 70, of Sioux Lookout has been charged with possession of opioid - other than heroin - for the purpose of trafficking. He was released on a Promise to Appear, and is scheduled to appear in Sioux Lookout Court next month to answer the charges.
