A 35-year-old Pikangikum First Nation resident is in custody and facing four charges after a life-threatening assault at a local hostel.
The Sioux Lookout OPP says they were advised of the assault on Meno Ya Win Way on May 11. Emergency Medical Services attended the scene and transported two victims to the hospital. One of the two victims was airlifted to Winnipeg with life-threatening injuries.
The 35-year-old Pikangikum resident, whose name was withheld by the OPP to protect the identity of the victims, is facing charges of:
- Assault a Peace Officer,
- Resist a Police Officer,
- Aggravated Assault.
The suspect was remanded into custody after a bail hearing on May 17.
The OPP says their investigation into the assault will continue under the North West Region Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Services, under the direction of the OPP’s Criminal Investigation Branch.
