The Treaty #3 region has worked to raise over $20,000 for those in need in northwestern Ontario.

Grand Council Treaty #3 says on August 20, they issued a challenge to their communities to hold a Bannock Burger Drive Fundraiser, and to donate the funds towards their local fellowship or friendship centre.

Through a variety of community donations across the region, Grand Council Treaty #3 has raised $22,538 for those in need.

“Miigwech to everyone for their hard work and coming together for a good cause!” said GCT3 staff, in a prepared release.

Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation led the charge with just under $15,000 in donations, that all went towards the Dryden Native Friendship Centre. Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nation raised $2,100.

Naotkamegwanning raised $2,700, Wauzhushk Onigum raised $1,100, Animakee Wa Zhing raised $410, Shoal Lake #40 raised $650, Grassy Narrows raised over $500, and all of their funds were donated to Kenora’s Fellowship Centre.

Earlier this week, Grand Council Treaty #3 Ogichidaa Francis Kavanaugh donated over $11,000 to Kenora’s Fellowship Centre, after a successful Shave for a Cause campaign. The Grand Chief shaved his head for charity, as well as solidarity following his cancer diagnosis.
