The Turkey Trot, a high school cross country event, was held at Dryden High School on Thursday, October 7, 2021.
Six races were held and featured athletes in grades 7 - 12 from St. Thomas Aquinas (STAHS), Beaver Brae Secondary School (BBSS), Dryden High School (DHS), Fort Frances High School (FFHS), and Red Lake High School (RL).
Maddyn Hughes, from STAHS, took first place in the Girls 3,000 Metre dash with a time of 14 minutes, 01 second. Ayla Savage, of STAHS, came in second with a time of 16 minutes, 28 seconds. Madison LeBlanc rounded out the top three with a race time of 17 minutes.
St. Thomas Aquinas High School swept the Boys 3,000 Metre dash! Tazio Mastromatteo narrowly beat Sawyer Barclay to take first place with a time of 12 minutes, 50 seconds. Barclay's time was 12 minutes, 56 seconds. Nick Nelson, also from STAHS, took third with 13 minutes, 34 seconds.
The third race was the Girls 5,000 Metre Dash. Emmerson Rose, from BBSS, dashed into first place with a time of 22 minutes, 5 seconds. Marissa Kenny, of FFHS, came in second with a time of 22 minutes, 33 seconds. Miranda Wilson, from FFHS, brought home bronze finishing with a time of 22 minutes, 44 seconds.
Scanlon Wiebe, of STAHS, took first place in the Boys 5,000 Metre Dash with a time of 20 minutes, 20 seconds. Cole Mitchel, from DHS, brought home silver running 21 minutes, 6 seconds. Rex Tolton, of FFHS, rounded out the top three with a time of 21 minutes, 26 seconds.
Fort Frances High School took gold, silver, and bronze in the Girls 10,000 Metre Dash. Leah Sequin raced to 22 minutes, 6 seconds. Chloe Dolyny's time was 22 minutes, 15 seconds. Emma Toriseva's time was 24 minutes and 13 seconds.
Trent Wilson, from FFHS, came in first in the Boys 10,000 Metre Dash with a time 17 minutes, 41 seconds. Colby Wallace, from STAHS, placed second with a time of 18 minutes, 31 seconds. Corbin Riches, of FFHS, finished in third place with a time of 21 minutes, 48 seconds.
The next cross country event is Wednesday, October 20 in Fort Frances for the Bear Pass Challenge.
