Dryden residents are able to take in some local hockey action this weekend, in honour of Brad West. The first annual Brad West Memorial Tournament is now underway with 16 teams from across the region.
The novice to bantam girls hockey tournament is in honour of Dryden resident, Dryden High School alumni, former volunteer firefighter, local girls hockey coach, Dryden Memorial Arena staff member and father Brad West. West passed away from cancer in 2017.
The tournament began with a Kenora vs. Dryden match-up, which kicked off with a ceremonial puck drop in West’s honour. Members of the West family and friend Ed Trist took to centre ice to drop the puck, following a moving speech about West.
The tournament runs until Sunday.
