Machin Volunteer Fire and First Response responded to a house fire on Hwy. 594 in Eagle River around 3 p.m. today, but they found the home fully engulfed.
After dumping 7,000 gallons of water on the fire, drawn from the nearby Eagle River Dam, they were able to bring it under control, although some had to spend extra time on hot spots.
"When we were cleaning up, everything was just frozen solid," said Olivia Robinson, assistant to the fire chief, with the cold still evident in her voice.
Robinson adds she didn't know about the occupants of the home, or any needs they may have.
