The impact of delays in the twinning of the Trans-Canada were apparent over the long weekend. Kenora Mayor Dave Canfield says they've been waiting since 2009.
"We're still waiting. It's been almost 10 years. It is desperately needed," he said Tuesday.
Canfield said traffic was bumper-to-bumper in both directions, when he drove to Winnipeg Saturday afternoon. Drivers were delayed again by more than an hour Sunday, as crews cleared away a collision between Pye's Landing and West Hawk.
"It just backs everything up, because you've got nowhere to go," the Canfield added.
The announcement of funding was made by the prime minister and the premier in the spring of 2009. Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford, who is also a senior member of the new provincial cabinet, says he's impatient for progress on the project.
