The Nuclear Waste Management Organization is set to do more drilling near Ignace this summer.
"Now we are in planning for additional bore holes," says Ben Belfadhel, the vice-president in charge of site selection.
The Ignace is one of five potential sites in the running. A single site will be chosen by 2023, and it will be the location for a project worth an estimated $23 billion.
Manitouwadge, South Bruce, Huron-Kinloss and Hornepayne are also still in the running. The repository project could bring 2,400 jobs over a 40-year lifespan.
