Provincial cabinet minister Greg Rickford has also served in federal cabinet, and he offers his comments on the SNC Lavalin scandal in Ottawa.

"As a lawyer and as a cabinet minister, who understands cabinet confidence and how you interact with the attorney-general in your cabinet, this is as big a scandal as I've ever seen," he said.

In recent weeks, the former attorney general -- Jody Wilson-Raybould -- has said she was the target of political interference, after she'd made her decision about how to proceed with the prosecution of the engineering firm. The Quebec-based engineering firm SNC-Lavalin is being prosecuted on corruption charges.

Rickford served as the minister responsible for Natural Resources under the previous Tory government. He says their cabinet also had an Indigenous leader, Leona Aglukkaq,

"I think, Jody (Wilson-Raybould) represented that same kind of opportunity, but obviously elevated to a more prominent role as Canada's attorney-general, and I think it's kind of unfortunate they've decided to hang her out to dry," he said.

Rickford serves at Queen's Park as the minister for Northern Development and Mines, Energy and Indigenous Affairs, along with his role as the MPP for Kenora-Rainy River.

He described Wilson-Raybould as polished politician with a rare intelligence, whose testimony earlier this week before the House of Commons ethics committee was "riveting and blistering."

The prime minister has said he disagrees completely with the characterization presented by the former attorney general. Opposition Leader Andrew Scheer of the Conservatives has called for the prime minister's resignation.
