A Winnipeg man has been fined for a fishing violation.

Stuart Fengler pleaded guilty and was fined $1,200 for possessing five walleye over his legal limit.

Court heard that on July 12, 2018, conservation officers from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry conducted a fisheries inspection of Fengler, his wife and two sons while they were angling in Echo Bay, Lake of the Woods. The inspection revealed that each family member had a valid licence and that the family possessed 21 walleye in total - two in their boat and 19 at their cottage. Their sport fishing licences only allowed them to possess a total of 16 walleye.

Justice of the Peace Roger McCraw Jr. heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Kenora, on September 4, 2018.
